History of Cougar Ridge Metalcraft
Michael Blasdell & Erin Mauck

Mike has been a metal fabricator and welder for over 30 years. He worked for a lift truck design and manufacturer for 25 of those years when he decided it was time to explore his entrepreneurial self. We started by buying a company that made tubular gates and panels for fairground animals. Two months after we purchased this company, steel prices doubled and continued to double throughout the year. Inexpensive (and lesser quality) panels were being imported from Mexico and we were virtually out of that business.

Since then, we have been exploring other avenues - see what you think!

Quality: It is difficult to appreciate the quality of our products in small, two dimensional pictures, so let us tell you a little about our standards. We believe in value and uniqueness. We use substantial weighted steel, and build projects to last.

For our wall hangings, signs, and gate art, we use all 1/8"-3/16" new steel. We cut the steel with a plasma cutter, then each individual piece is cleaned and selectively ground for textured effects. The wall art is then welded in a three dimensional pattern. Look closely to see the layers in each piece. Often, we keep the natural steel look by heat treating the metal which brings out varied colors that add dimension and "movement" that will vary piece by piece. The finished product is then painted with a clear powder-coat finish, leaving a smooth, shiny coat. The gate art can be left to age naturally, or any piece may be painted with a colored finish if preferred. The wall art has a toothed hanger welded on inconspicuously for a free-floating appearance when hung.

Our bells are made from cylinders that are deemed "out of service". They are cut, ground clean, and then designed in endless creativity. Some parts are blacksmithed, with twisted steel and hand shaped flowers for the hummingbirds. Each bell is incredibly unique in design, color, and tone.

Design: The designs are created from a picture, a drawing, or from our imagination. Leesa Brunstad (Leesa's HorseCapades) is an artist that has partnered up with us, designing some of our western directed artwork. Our designs lean toward nature and often a western appeal, but we are trying some more contemporary designs and will have more pictures when they are ready. We do offer custom designs (logos, ranch brands, or favorite pet) to meet your specifications, there is an extra cost for this. Please call us with questions.
