Sue Allen has been designing and printing for many years. Her cards and original limited-edition screenprints are distinctive and colorful, inspired by tradition, nature and imagination. Since receiving a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Cooper Union in New York City, printmaking has been her main focus and livelihood. Artistic directions range from nature and organic order to abstraction and geometry, and veers repeatedly toward the Japanese aesthetic and beauty. Recent studies in the book arts has led to a new passion, one that brings her back to a design and construction format. Her studio is in Brightwood, Oregon, in the foothills of Mount Hood.

Sue combines her two main mediums in a recent project—SUITE SIXTEEN, a series of 16 screenprints of lanterns in the Portland Japanese Garden, 4 in each season, contained in 4 byobu folding screens and housed in a shihu chitsu Japanese four-sided case. Each of the screenprints is available separately, but the boxed set is in a limited-edition of 10.

And, just finished – AROUND MOUNT HOOD: 12 MONTHS - 12 DIRECTIONS, her series of 12 screenprints showing the sides and seasons of Mount Hood. This set went on exhibit last November at the Mount Hood Cultural Center and Museum in Government Camp, and is scheduled for many other exhibitions throughout the year in the Portland area. She also received a grant from the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition and the Oregon Cultural Trust for this project.

2007 is the year of finishing up old projects, expanding her horizons, and really doing the long promised website. As you can see, some progress has been made!!
